Precision Carpentry - Frequently Asked Questions
Q How much will my renovation or project cost?
A After and initial renovation consultation and a home assessment, we will put a comprehensive budget together for you. The budget will depend on the scope of work required for the project and the budget restrictions that you have. Once we put together the initial budget, we can review it several times and change things around until we get it perfect. Sometimes this means adding or subtracting certain budget items, or increasing or reducing specific item allowances within the budget. We will do our best to create an accurate budget estimate that will give you a good idea of the total project cost.

Q How long will my renovation project take to complete?
A Project length is totally dependent on project scope and detail. After the consultation, we can give you a rough estimate on project length to completion. After the budget is reviewed and approved, we will prepare a detailed project schedule (or timeline) that will provide you with a breakdown of all services to be performed and how long each of them will take. The schedule becomes part of our contract, and you can count on us to honour our project completion dates.

Q Why are there some cases where you can't give a firm quotation?
A Let's compare a renovation to an orange - it looks okay from the outside, but until you peel off the layers, you really have no idea what is inside. And sometimes, it is not at all what you expected. Sometimes what is in the floor boards, or in the walls, is not as easy as we thought. We try and budget for the unknown, and thoroughly inspect your place before we give you a budget. But there is a lot that we don't know, and wont know, until we really get started. Usually, we have a pretty good idea of what to expect. But it is not entirely unusual to uncover some unwanted rot or decay that needs remediation before we can proceed as planned. Of course, if this happens, we will consult with you before doing anything. We will be able to give you a good idea of how much work is needed to correct problems and how much that will cost.

Q What is the resale value of my renovations?
A Studies show that the renovations with the highest resale value include painting (both interior and exterior), kitchen renovations, bathroom renovations, flooring replacement, window and door replacement and additions. The worst resale value upgrade? A swimming pool.
